What is the biggest GTA stream ever? Two records, not one

Update, 20 August 2026. The three-platform figure below has been beaten. Our all-time peak is now 714,990 concurrent viewers, set at 21:37 UTC on 13 August 2026 — 67,114 above the 11 August reading this post was written around. Everything else here stands: the 2021 Twitch-only record, the absence of any published all-time single-stream figure, and the point that a Twitch-only tracker misses most of it. The current number is always on our peaks page.

Two answers, because two different things get called the same record.

If you mean everyone watching Grand Theft Auto at once, the largest figure anyone has published is 1,141,000 concurrent viewers on 2 May 2021, at the height of the NoPixel roleplay boom. That is a Twitch-only number, reported by Gamesight in August 2021, which put it eleventh among all-time Twitch peak viewership events.

If you mean one channel, one broadcast, there is no published record at all. Nobody keeps that book for GTA. The biggest single GTA stream we have measured is the Kick channel sxb at 215,352 concurrent viewers, at 17:33 UTC on 1 August 2026 — and our record book only opened on 29 July 2026, so treat that as a floor rather than a record.

The gap between those two facts is the interesting part, and it is getting wider, because the number everyone quotes is measured on the platform where GTA is no longer mostly watched.

The 2021 number is a category peak, not a stream

This trips up almost every article on the subject. A category peak sums every channel streaming the game at that instant — a thousand roleplay streams and one huge one, added together. A single-stream peak is one broadcaster’s own concurrent count. They differ by an order of magnitude and they get used interchangeably.

The 1.14 million figure is the first kind. On 2 May 2021 the GTA V category on Twitch was the eleventh-largest thing that had ever happened on the platform, and no individual streamer was carrying anywhere near a million of it.

The second kind is genuinely unpublished. Streams Charts and twitchmetrics rank GTA creators by hours watched and peak viewers over rolling windows, but neither maintains an all-time single-stream record for the game, and the aggregate sites that do keep all-time leaderboards keep them per platform rather than per game. So “the biggest GTA stream ever” has no keeper.

What Twitch’s record book says today

For the category, the current Twitch figures are much smaller than 2021. SullyGnome, checked on 12 August 2026, has GTA V peaking at 219,700 concurrent viewers over the thirty days to 11 August, and 282,059 as its best of 2026 so far. That puts the game fourteenth on Twitch by peak viewers.

Read those as the whole GTA audience and you would conclude the game has lost three-quarters to four-fifths of its live viewership since 2021 — 282,059 is 24.7% of the 2021 peak and 219,700 is 19.3%. That conclusion is wrong, and the reason is a platform SullyGnome does not track.

The Twitch-only record book is now the smaller half

Streams Charts, whose data is independent of ours, put July 2026 GTA V viewing at 82.5 million hours watched on Kick against 49.5 million on Twitch — 112,300 average viewers to Twitch’s 68,600. On their numbers Twitch’s GTA hours fell from 67.9 million in July 2025 to 49.5 million in July 2026, while Kick’s average climbed from 71,400 in January to 112,300 in July, overtaking Twitch in April.

We measure all three platforms once a minute, and our figures point the same way, harder. In the census taken at 04:01:48 UTC on 12 August 2026 — 2,518 live GTA channels, 171,207 viewers — Kick held 121,640 of those viewers on 271 channels, Twitch 40,926 on 2,129, and YouTube 8,641 on 118. Kick was 71% of the audience on 11% of the channels.

Which brings us to the number that prompted this piece. At 21:45 UTC on 11 August 2026 our collector recorded 647,876 people watching GTA across the three platforms at once — the highest reading in our fourteen-day record. Twitch contributed 126,199 of it. A tracker watching only Twitch would have seen nothing happen at all.

That was the record when this piece was published. It lasted two days: at 21:37 UTC on 13 August 2026 the same measurement read 714,990, which is where our all-time peak sits as of 20 August. The shape of the argument does not change — it moved the three-platform number further above every Twitch-only figure on this page, not closer to one.

The 11 August reading was a spike rather than a plateau, and it was entirely Kick’s. The three-platform total sat between 518,000 and 523,000 from 21:15 to 21:35, jumped to 595,119 at 21:40 and 647,876 at 21:45, then fell back to 539,858 by 21:55. Kick went from 388,314 to 515,274 and back to 411,181 across those twenty minutes while Twitch stayed flat within 3,000 viewers and YouTube within 2,500. Something on Kick added roughly 127,000 concurrent viewers for about ten minutes. From a category-level series we cannot tell you which channel it was, and we are not going to guess.

Our record book

Every row below is measured by our own collector, which samples every live GTA stream on Kick, Twitch and YouTube once a minute. The book opened on 29 July 2026; figures are as exported at 03:50:47 UTC on 12 August 2026 and are live at /milestones/.

Record Holder Platform Figure Set

Most airtime, 30 days Wondersgta Gaming YouTube 785.8 h rolling
Most broadcasts in a week swiftorworma Twitch 136 rolling
Longest single session twitchmedia84 Twitch 48.0 h 2 Aug 2026

Two of those need an asterisk, and it is more honest to put them here than in a footnote.

The longest-session record is set by our own rule, not by a streamer. We exclude any session running 48 hours or longer, because channels that rebroadcast around the clock report a start time weeks in the past and turn “longest session” into a meaningless number. The record therefore sits exactly on that boundary. Read it as the longest session our rules admit.

The highest-average record rests on six hours. drb7h averaged 117,348 viewers across 6.0 hours of airtime in the window. That is a real average over a real audience, but it is not comparable to a channel that averaged a third as much over ten times the airtime. Hours watched is the fairer measure, and by that measure the order changes:

Creator Platform Language Hours watched, 14d Airtime Average
absi Kick Arabic 2,277,574 61.5 h 37,063
sxb Kick Arabic 2,195,068 24.1 h 91,018

29 July to 03:50 UTC on 12 August 2026 — 14 days — top 100 creators by hours watched. The full board is at /leaderboard/.

There is a reason none of these names appears in English coverage of GTA streaming: four of the five broadcast in Arabic or Portuguese, all five are on Kick, and 88% of the watch time on our creator board is Kick’s. We have written before about how little of this audience is English-speaking, and the record book is the sharpest version of that finding — the biggest GTA broadcast we have ever measured came from a channel most GTA journalists have never typed.

What these records do not show

Our window is fourteen days old. Anything here described as a record is a record since 29 July 2026, and the 2021 category peak stands unchallenged by anything we hold. If a bigger single GTA stream happened in 2021, we would not know.

We report the viewer counts each platform’s API returns and we do not audit them. Where a figure looks surprising, the surprise belongs to the platform’s count, not to an inference of ours.

Our Kick channel coverage is capped. Kick’s public API returns only the top 100 channels in a category and ignores pagination, so channels that have never entered that top 100 reach us only once we know them by name. This barely moves the viewer totals — the top of Kick holds nearly all of Kick’s GTA audience — but it does mean our Kick channel count is a floor, and per-channel averages should never be compared across platforms. That is set out in full on /methodology/.

Finally, the single-stream peak and the category peak are computed differently: the category figure is the maximum of a five-minute cross-platform series, and the single-stream figure is the maximum sample within one broadcast. Neither is a smoothed average, and both will read slightly high against any source that averages before it takes a maximum.

The record to beat

GTA VI ships on 19 November 2026, 99 days from today, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The 2021 category record of 1,141,000 was set by a mod — the NoPixel roleplay server — on a platform that then held nearly all of GTA’s audience. Launch week will be measured across at least three platforms, and on current form Kick will carry most of it, which means the number that gets reported and the number that is true will diverge unless someone is counting all of them. We intend to be, in public, at /live/.

Our fourteen-day baseline, for anyone who wants to check the launch-week figures against a before: in the 24 hours to 04:00 UTC on 12 August, peak 647,876, mean 219,158 and trough 66,232, all from five-minute samples. On the hourly series, the best hour of each of the thirteen complete days ran between 362,730 (9 August) and 535,409 (11 August), so a fortnight of days has topped out inside a band about 1.5× wide. The best hour of the day is 21:00 UTC, every day, without exception.
