What time does GTA 6 come out? 19 hours of midnights
9 min read

Midnight, where you are — probably.
The first copies of Grand Theft Auto VI are expected to unlock in New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on 18 November. The last, in Mexico and Central America, unlock 19 hours later, at 06:00 UTC on 19 November. In between, the game goes live one local midnight at a time across the PlayStation Store’s regions, which means there is no single moment when GTA VI comes out. There are about fifteen of them.
That is the answer. The rest of this page is the part nobody else has: what the world is actually doing during each of those nineteen hours, measured.
What is confirmed, and what is not
| Claim | Status |
|---|---|
| GTA VI releases 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S | Confirmed — Take-Two, 24 June 2026 |
| Preload opens 12 November 2026 | Confirmed — same release |
| rockstargames.com/VI publishes no launch time | Confirmed — we fetched it on 18 September 2026; it says only “Coming November 19, 2026” |
| The game unlocks at midnight local time, per region | Reported — from PlayStation Store timestamps collated by GTAVice, 7–8 September |
| 63 store regions resolving into ~15 unlock windows across 19 hours | Reported — GTA BOOM, which says it checked every regional listing |
| New Zealand first; US and Canada second-to-last; Mexico last | Reported — consistent across GTA BOOM, PlayStation LifeStyle, MP1st and Kotaku |
| Xbox follows the same schedule | Unconfirmed — the Xbox listing shows the date without the country-by-country times |
| Rockstar has announced any of this | No. Every time above traces to store listings, not to the company |
Two things follow from the mechanism that are worth knowing before you set an alarm. The timestamp is attached to a country’s store listing, not to a time zone, so in countries spanning several zones the western side gets it earlier in the evening — the United States listing puts New York at midnight, which is 9pm on 18 November in Los Angeles. And your PlayStation account’s region, not your physical location, decides which listing applies to you.
We could not read the store listings ourselves, so every unlock time on this page is somebody else’s measurement. What we did check is the arithmetic, and it holds: midnight on 19 November in New Zealand is 11:00 UTC on the 18th, midnight in Mexico City is 06:00 UTC on the 19th, and the gap between them is 19 hours exactly.
The unlock window, laid over the audience
Here is what only we can add. We sample every live Grand Theft Auto stream on Kick, Twitch and YouTube once a minute. Over the 721 hourly points from 04:00 UTC on 19 August to 04:00 UTC on 18 September 2026, the median hour of the day looks like this — and the unlock sequence walks straight across it.
| Unlock (UTC) | Regions | Median live GTA viewers in that hour | Share of the day’s busiest hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 Nov 11:00 | New Zealand | 129,106 | 28% |
| 18 Nov 13:00 | Eastern Australia | 216,472 | 47% |
| 18 Nov 15:00 | Japan, South Korea | 300,536 | 65% |
| 18 Nov 17:00 | Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia * | 325,121 | 70% |
| 18 Nov 18:30 | India * | 349,610 | 76% |
| 18 Nov 20:00 | UAE * | 456,889 | 99% |
| 18 Nov 21:00 | Saudi Arabia, Türkiye * | 461,333 | 100% |
| 18 Nov 23:00 | Continental Europe (CET) | 389,158 | 84% |
| 19 Nov 00:00 | UK, Ireland, Portugal * | 357,373 | 77% |

| 19 Nov 05:00 | United States, Canada | 155,968 | 34% |
| 19 Nov 06:00 | Mexico, Central America | 116,732 | 25% |
* Rows marked with an asterisk are our own arithmetic from the reported midnight-local rule, not times we have seen quoted from a listing. The unmarked rows are quoted in the reporting above.
The window opens near the floor of the GTA day and closes near the floor of the next one. In between it crosses the single busiest hour we measure — 21:00 UTC, median 461,333 viewers — which is, by coincidence of clocks, the hour the game unlocks across Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Moscow.
Resist the obvious inference there, because we did. That peak is not a Gulf effect. 21:00 UTC is simultaneously late evening in Europe, afternoon in the Americas and midnight in the Gulf, and we hold no per-region history that could separate them, so the honest statement is that the biggest hour of the GTA day and the Gulf unlock land on the same clock reading. It is worth flagging anyway, because the largest channels we measure are Arabic-language: on the thirty-day top-100 board this morning, 27 Arabic channels hold 49.0% of the board’s 47.3 million hours watched, which is a pattern we have written about before.
The more useful reading is the other end. The United States and Canada unlock at 05:00 UTC, when the median hour holds 155,968 people — 34% of the peak. Mexico, last in the queue, gets it at 25%. The two biggest console markets in the Americas receive Grand Theft Auto VI at the quiet end of the global GTA day, roughly three hours after the audience has bottomed out in Europe and long before it wakes up again. Kotaku’s framing — that the US is nearly last — is right as far as it goes. What it misses is that the US is not just late, it is late into an empty room.
What this does not show
The honest limits, hardest first.
Our curve measures today’s game, not next year’s. Everything above is GTA V, GTA Online and roleplay. Roleplay alone was 112,195 of 279,122 viewers in our 04:01 UTC census this morning — 40% — and it runs on FiveM, which is PC-only, so none of it moves to VI on 19 November. The audience that fills the 21:00 UTC peak is not the same audience that will install GTA VI, and we cannot measure the second one until it exists.
The level has already moved, and will move again. Split the same thirty days at 8 September, the day NoPixel V’s closed beta opened, and every hour of the clock sits 25% to 58% higher afterwards. What survived that shift intact is the shape: the peak stayed at 21:00 UTC on both sides of the break, the trough at 08:00–09:00, the peak-to-trough ratio 5.21× before and 5.33× after. So treat the percentage column as the durable one and the absolute figures as a dated snapshot. Anyone quoting these counts as a launch-night prediction is quoting them wrong.
We count viewers, not players, across three platforms — no Facebook Gaming, no Chinese platforms, nobody playing with the stream off. And a launch night is not a median night; the all-time peak we have recorded is 992,344, set on 27 August, more than double the best median hour on this page.
If you are planning around it
Preload opens 12 November, a week ahead, which is the part of this schedule Rockstar has actually confirmed. Nobody outside Rockstar knows how big the download is — no official install size has been published, and the 150–200 GB figure in circulation is a press and community estimate, unconfirmed — but on any number in that range, a week of preload is doing real work. If you want to be playing at unlock rather than downloading at unlock, that is the date that matters, not this one.
If you are streaming it, the crowded water is the European and Gulf window on the 18th, and the open water is the American unlock at 05:00 UTC on the 19th, when you are competing against a third of the usual audience — and, for the same reason, a third of the usual attention. Our hour-by-hour breakdown covers that trade-off on an ordinary day.
